What you can do with Ren

One Claude-powered assistant that runs your home, keeps your private memory, listens when you want it to — all on hardware you own. Every capability below ships today.

Run your whole home

Ren speaks to the platforms you already have through 18 connectors, then lets you control everything by name — group devices into rooms and scenes, and automate them on triggers and schedules.

Rooms & the house graph

Organize every accessory into rooms and a structured home Ren reasons over — addressed by name, never by cryptic device ID.

Scenes

Name a snapshot of device states — "Movie Night dims the living room and closes the shades" — and recall it in a sentence.

Automations

Trigger + action rules ("when the front door opens, turn on the hallway light"), run by a built-in scheduler and an event-driven state watcher.

Discovery & diagnostics

Ren finds devices on your network and runs a health check that reports exactly which connectors initialized and why.

Backup & restore

Export the full house graph, scenes, and automations to JSON and import them back — your configuration is portable and yours.

A private second brain

Notes, lists, reminders, timers, your calendar, and sandboxed files — the everyday tools, kept on your device and reachable in plain language.

Durable notes

Persist key facts in Ren’s private on-device memory and recall them across conversations.

Lists

Shopping, to-do, packing — named lists that live on your machine, add/remove/clear by voice or text.

Reminders & timers

Set reminders and timers; a live notifications stream surfaces them when they come due.

Calendar

Check and manage your schedule through the same natural conversation.

Files

Read and write within a sandboxed folder — useful work on your documents, confined to a path you control.

Web

Fetch a page when a task needs something from the open web.

Hands-free, when you want it

Voice is entirely opt-in and runs on your CPU — no extra hardware, no cloud speech service. Ren boots fine without it.

Speech in

Whisper speech-to-text and Silero voice-activity detection turn your words into intent — locally.

Speech out

Piper text-to-speech replies in a natural voice you configure.

Wake word

Optional continuous listening: Ren only acts after it hears its wake word — audio is processed on-device.

Yours, not a cloud's

Ren is local-only by design. There’s no hosted account, no sync service, and nothing leaves your network beyond the Claude calls you choose to make.

Local-first memory

Every conversation, thread, and reminder lives in one SQLite file on your device. It never syncs to a cloud you don’t control.

Cryptographic identity

Ren holds a persistent ed25519 keypair on-device and can present a signed identity card — proof of who it is, without a central account.

No telemetry

The only outbound traffic is the Claude API call you explicitly make. No analytics, no usage tracking, no device state leaving your network.

Safe by default

Side-effecting tools (delete, export, device control) are gated off until you opt in — Ren explains what it wanted to do instead of doing it blind.

Ren speaks in intent, not model IDs — short asks route to a fast tier, planning and debugging to a stronger one, automatically.
